Winnie has swept the Australian literary scene with a wave of accolades and awards for her transcendent debut novel, Dirt Poor Islanders.
This year, Winnie has been the recipient of the Sydney Morning Herald Best Young Novelists Award and the Creative Australia Kathleen Mitchell Award. Dirt Poor Islanders has also been shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Literary Award, Australia’s most prestigious literary prize, as well as the UTS Glenda Adams Award and the Multicultural Award at the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards.
As the general manager of Sweatshop Literacy Movement and the author of Australia’s first Tongan novel, Winnie has been an inspiration and mentor to hundreds of emerging writers across the country, especially young people from the Pasifika diaspora.
Sweatshop could not be prouder of Winnie’s achievements and game-changing contributions, and our organisation strongly recommends Dirt Poor Islanders for every Australian bookshelf.
